CYPRUS – AN ISLAND OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ADORNED WITH THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE COMPANIONS

Cyprus is an island located in the heart of the Mediterranean; blessed by the footsteps of the Companions of the Prophet, a special place where history and spirituality are intertwined. These lands, which first encountered Islam during the conquests in the time of Caliph Osman, still preserve the memory of great Companions such as Umm Haram (may Allah be pleased with her).

The Tomb of the Forty in the island bears witness to the first arrival of Islam to Cyprus and is one of the spiritual resting places of the Companions. The walled city of Nicosia carries the traces of the Ottoman period, while the Museum of Barbarism reminds visitors of the sorrowful history of recent times.

Girne Castle brings together the splendor of history with Mediterranean views, while Famagusta still preserves the Ottoman identity shaped by Lala Mustafa Pasha's conquest.

Cyprus is not merely a holiday destination; it is a living memorial to Islamic history, the sacrifice of the Companions, and Ottoman justice. This unique route offers visitors a journey enriched with history, spirituality, and peace.

Itinerary

Day-by-day journey

  1. Day 1

    January 27, Wednesday

    Cities visited: Nicosia

Upon arrival at Ercan Airport, we meet our guide and transfer vehicle and begin our tour without delay. Our first stop is the Tomb of the Forty, a sacred site from the 7th century AD where the graves of 40 Companions who were martyred during Islamic raids on Cyprus are located. After this spiritually rich visit, we continue our tour with deep emotions and head to the capital, Nicosia, where we visit the Museum of Barbarism in sequence.

After visiting the museum, which is the house where the wife and three children of Major Doctor Nihat İlhan were killed in a bathtub, we see the Green Line panoramically. Continuing our tour, we will explore the Walled City of Nicosia. At the monumental Nicosia Gate, we descend from our bus and continue our tour on foot. First, we visit the Museum of Turkish Cypriot History, Culture and National Struggle.

Then, we visit the Cyprus Mevlevi House, Samanbahçe Houses, Sarayönü Square, the Obelisk, the tombs of our martyrs from the 16th century Ottoman conquest to the present day, and complete our tour by viewing the Lokmacı Border Gate that divides the Arasta Bazaar in two. We are given free time in the Great Khan, gather at the specified time, return to the bus, and proceed to our hotel for dinner and accommodation.

  2. Day 2

    January 28, Thursday

    Cities visited: Famagusta

After breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we begin our tour. Our first stop for the Famagusta city tour is the Walled City of Famagusta, which came under Turkish control during the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation. This area, which has the appearance of a ghost town, was once the largest entertainment and favorite holiday destination.

During our tour here, we also visit the mosque built in 1813 belonging to Bilal Agha Foundation and buildings that resemble an open-air film set. In our historical tour of the Walled City of Famagusta, notable sites include the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, the Prison of Namık Kemal, the Venetian Palace, and the tomb of Mehmet Çelebi. We continue our tour by having our fatigue coffee at Petek Pastry Shop. The Tomb of Kutup Osman and the Cyprus Çanakkale Martyrs Monument are among our visiting points, and we continue our tour with a visit to the Martyr Villages in the Famagusta region. The tragic story of the massacre of 126 innocent residents by the EOKA organization in 1974 in the villages of Atlılar, Muratağa, and Sandallar, and the visit to the village primary school turned into a museum, will deeply move you. After this emotionally rich visit, we proceed to our hotel for accommodation and dinner.

  3. Day 3

    January 29, Friday

    Cities visited: Morphou · Lefka

After breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we travel by bus for approximately 5 hours to the westernmost part of Cyprus. Güzelyurt welcomes us with crystal blue sea on one side and lush citrus groves on the other. Our first stop is the Monument of Cengiz Topel, Turkey's First Air Force Martyr. We visit the monument and museum of our martyr, and learn about the mining area left by CMC mining company and its ongoing effects through our guide's explanations.

We move to the Ottoman town of Lefke, which still preserves the traces of history as it did on the first day. The historical mansions and bay-windowed houses here take us back to the old days. We visit the Dergah and tomb of Sheikh Nazim of Cyprus, Lefke's most important treasure that has become part of Cyprus. After conversations at the dergah, we have the option to visit Yeşilırmak village if it is in season and pick strawberries straight from the branch among dozens of strawberry gardens, breathing in its wonderful air. It is now time to leave this magnificent region full of nature, sea, and fruit. We head to our hotel for dinner and accommodation.

  4. Day 4

    January 30, Saturday

    Cities visited: Kyrenia · Nicosia

After breakfast at the hotel in the morning, we reach Girne by bus in approximately 1 hour. Our first stop is the Tomb of Caliph Umar, a sacred shrine that is intertwined with the sea, embracing you with both its profound history and magnificent views. After our visit here, we tour the Karaoğlanoğlu Region, where the 1974 landing operation took place; following our visits to the Ship Museum, Gazi Helicopter, Peace and Freedom Museum Open-Air Museum and the Martyrs' Monument, we head to the center of Girne. After free time in the Historic Girne Bazaar, we visit the ancient harbor Girne Castle and the Ağa Cafer Pasha Mosque, a distinguished Ottoman work. (If weather permits, we can organize an extra boat tour from the ancient harbor along the Girne coastline.) On our return, we complete our visit to the Boğaz Martyrs' Monument and head to Jumbo Shopping Center in Nicosia for shopping. After completing our shopping stop before the airport, we head to the airport. Now it is time to say goodbye. After saying farewell to our tour guide and captain, we head to the check-in counter.
